Holy
Communion
Holy
Communion celebrates the living memorial of Christ’s sacrifice
for the salvation of all and commemorates His last meal with His
disciples. We receive the Eucharist which is the real body and blood
of Christ and what appears to be bread and wine are actually the
living body of Christ. Holy Communion is a sacrament of initiation
into the Catholic Church and also the faith community which is Our
Mother of Sorrows.
Preparation for First Holy Communion is a parish function, separate
from school or faith formation. Preparation for children who will
receive Holy Communion for the first time is done primarily at home
with their parents.
At Our Mother of Sorrows Church, preparation generally begins with
a meeting held during the winter months with a group celebration
of the sacrament held during the month of May. Children are also
encouraged to celebrate the sacrament individually at a regularly
scheduled Liturgy.
