Catholic Ministries Appeal (2011-2012)
Jonathan Schott is the Coordinator of Adult, Family, and Catechist Formation in the Department of Evangelization and Catechesis of the Diocese of Rochester. He is also the new chairperson of the Stewardship Committee of Our Mother of Sorrows parish. Most importantly, he is the husband of our Faith Formation Director, Jodi Schott. Within a matter of a few days from now Jodi and Jonathan will be the proud parents of their first born child. So our prayers are with them for a successful delivery of their child, and for good health, happiness and many blessings for their child in the years to come.
With his experience in ministry, and especially at the Pastoral Center, Jonathan very kindly prepared a statement for the forthcoming Catholic Ministries Appeal, to help us to have a better understanding of how our contributions to the appeal are used for the benefit of our parish and the larger church. He sets out 5 ways. They are as follows:
5 Ways Your CMA Gift Supports
Our Mother of Sorrows Through Diocesan Ministries
1. Vocations
Our Mother of Sorrows continues to nurture and foster vocations to the ordained ministry. Your CMA gift helps to fund the formation of both aspirants to the Permanent Diaconate and those who are in the stages of discernment or are in formation for the Diocesan Priesthood.
Your gift also affords current Priests the opportunity to engage in sabbaticals, where our pastors can energize themselves, learn additional skills and receive additional formation for their priestly ministry.
2. Catholic Charities
By virtue of our baptism as Disciples of Christ we are called to a life of social justice and we have a preferential option for the poor. Your CMA gift helps funds programs of Diocesan Catholic Charities such as Catholic Charities Community Services, which provides residential and support services to those individuals and families who have developmental disabilities.
Your CMA gift also helps fund ministries of Catholic Charities such as the many services Catholic Family Center, including employment support and education, childcare and adoption services, housing services including services for the homeless, refugees, elderly, and those in need of utilities assistance.
