A MESSAGE FROM OUR PASTOR, FR. BILL

“As I Walk This Way”

Dear Parishioners,

Last week I enjoyed a few days of rest and fun with my family. I was also able to spend some time thinking about our two parishes. The challenges of the past year related to the pandemic have called us to exercise careful stewardship of our buildings, our resources, and even our own bodies by using face masks, washing our hands, and being vaccinated. What we have been exercising is the stewardship of the resources God has entrusted to us.

Now that we are slowly and safely getting back to a more normal way of life, the call to stewardship continues. We respond to this call in the way we live our lives, by serving God and others, and the support we offer to our two parishes. By welcoming one another to church, by using our gifts, and by the financial offerings we make, the call of stewardship is lived out. The financial offerings we each make to the church provide the necessary means for us to continue the mission of sharing the Gospel. An example of this is our beautifully restored Tabernacle at Holy Cross. The prayers and financial offerings by            parishioners made this restoration possible. This is a wonderful example of how we use our gifts in service to Almighty God.

This week we celebrate Memorial Day on Monday, May 31. This is a time to be mindful of the brave men and woman who served in the armed forces and gave their lives so that we could enjoy freedom. Please join us for a 9:00 AM Mass on Monday, May 31 at Our    Mother of Sorrows Cemetery (circa 1823) where several service members are buried, including some from the Civil War. This will be the one Mass on Memorial Day for our two parishes. Following Mass, Taps will be played. Please bring a lawn chair. In case of rain we will be in Our Mother of Sorrows Church. “Building a Bridge to Christ.” On Sunday, June 6, Bishop Matano will preside and preach the 11:00 AM Mass at Our Mother of Sorrows. All are welcome! We are also looking forward to Bishop Matano’s visit to Holy Cross this September near the feast of the Exultation of the Holy Cross.

A Blessed and Safe Memorial Day to all! May the Lord bless all our service men and woman, all our front line workers and first responders.

In Christ,

Fr. William G. Coffas

Pastor of Our Mother of Sorrows + Holy Cross
